About Chez Juredieu

About Chez Juredieu

Our house was built in 1870, and was formerly a working farm called Juredieu. , which means: "I swear to God,".

The feeling you get in our home is one of space, and a place where you can find some peace and quiet in your daily life. The time seems to have stood still ..... Once you've been to Chez Juredieu, you can sincerely say: “vivre dans une maison Auvergnate”!

For a little bit more history we need to go back to the 16th and 17th centuries:

Charles d'Artagnan was a famous captain of the Musketeers of the Guard serving the Sun King, Louis XIV. During the Franco-Dutch war, he was fatally wounded with a musket during the Siege of Maastricht.  His grandmother, Madame d’Artagnan was known by many as Juredieu, and as she spent some time in this area in 1550, so it was named after her.  Or at least, so we were told – by a surprise French visitor with the same surname as our home!

Place

Monétay sur Loire is a commune with 308 inhabitants – including  Reinier and Lisanne, of course! The commune is part of the Moulins arrondisment, and forms the Sologne Bourbonnaise intercommunality with Val de Besbre This intercommunality belongs to Allier department, which is in the Auvergne region. The Allier is also referred to as the modern Auvergne.

Due to the large amount of forests, rivers and lakes in the Auvergne, it is also called the lungs and the water source of France.

We benefit the clean pure air here in the heart of the green lungs of France!
